About Chiropractic

Chiropractic is the second largest of the three primary health care professions in the United States.  Chiropractors are practitioners of manual medicine, and don’t use drugs or perform surgery. They do use chiropractic manipulation, chiropractic adjustments, nutrition therapies, therapeutic exercises and rehabilitation, and other wellness approaches. Chiropractors are the original wellness doctors.

Chiropractic is a branch of the healing arts, which is based upon the understanding that good health depends, in part, upon a normally functioning nervous system (especially the spine, and the nerves extending from the spine to all parts of the body). Chiropractic stresses the idea that the  cause of many disease processes begins with the the body’s inability to adapt to its environment. It looks to address these diseases not by the use of drugs and chemicals, but by locating and adjusting or manipulating a musculoskeletal area of the body which is functioning improperly, as well as through nutritional and life style interventions.

“Chiropractic” comes from the Greek word chiropraktikos, meaning “effective treatment by hand.”

The California Chiropractic Association produced this nice video with Dr. Terry Schroeder, former Olympian, current Olympic water polo coach, and chiropractor:
