In February of 2008, after an intensive training course, Dr. Seaton became certified in Applied Functional Medicine in Clinical Practice.

Functional medicine is personalized medicine that focuses on prevention and underlying causes instead of symptoms for serious chronic disease. It is a science-based field of health care that recognizes the importance of people’s individual variations based on environmental and genetic factors and the web-like interconnections of physiological factors. For example, stress levels can affect different people in different ways, dietary imbalances can cause hormonal disturbances, and environmental exposures can lead to neurological disorders such as Parkinson’s disease.

Because many imbalances have their origin in nutritional deficiencies, functional medicine places a strong emphasis on achieving health through nutrition and optimal gut function. Patients with irritable bowel syndrome, chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, arthritis, cardiovascular disease, metabolic syndrome (insulin resistance), and many other conditions responds well to this kind of approach without the need for medications or with only limited medications.

To explore the root cause of dysfunctions you may have and to prevent any additional imbalances, we will examine your diet, exercise program, personal and family history, and perform necessary tests. Based on this we will develop a healthy living program for you, which may include diet and nutrition guidines, recommended nutritional and herbal supplements, an exercise program, and stress reduction tools.
